Preparing for the Tuv and rebuilding the engine.

Between events in 2018-2019 we started to get the cocktail bar ready for the Tuv. We ran it down to Hamburg Tuv centre where we had a list of things to correct.

After the first Tuv inspection we had a long list to go through so we lifted him up on the ramps and spent a few days changing the ball joints, steering track and rods. Full new brakes from front to rear, new speedometer cable, new rear exhaust back-box and heating pipe. Wired up the reversing lights and changed the rear light lenses. Replaced the washer pipe, horn headlight relay and engine mounts.

After removing and rebuilding the carb and cleaning it for the second time we finally passed the emissions test and got him a Tuv and registered for the road. Back on the German roads for the first time in 40 years.

Unfortunately he was still lacking power on the hills and seemed to be running only on 3 cylinders. After a compression test it was bad news. During the winter of 2018 – early 2019 we i decided to whip the engine out and start working on him.

I striped the engine down, replaced the valves, piston rings and cleaned off all the years of sludge from the rods and top end and back she went. Although the power is up i have been having some carb issues and i think its time to remove the carb again for the 3rd time and give it another clean. Fuel seems to be leaking out of it so i guess another fuel filter is probably on the carbs. Stay tuned for 2020 repairs 🙁

Keeping us both dry!

Wherever we go the sun shines!

Atleast that’s what we thought until we got the the Bispingen Christmas markets where we was met with rain and snow.

So we decided to splash out in the Spring of 2018 and invest in a tent we can build onto our Volkswagen drink truck and keep you and ourselves dry.

Cocktails whatever the weather.

We can’t promise the sun will always shine but we can keep our customers and Otto dry.

Summer Bulli Hire

The Summer of 2017

During the summer of 2017 we attended some great events and had heaps of fun doing so.

Starting with the fantastic McDonald’s Kinderhilfe at Hof Bockelmann selling Coffee, beers, popcorn & candyfloss for the kiddies and of course a few cocktails.

Followed up with a great annual event at the seeterasse Seefest in Behringen for cocktails and the campervans photobooth.

Schneverdingen Heideblütenfest with over 40,000 guests serving cocktails from the bulli.

The Sgts’ messtival in Paderborn for the British Armed Forces where we rented the Bulli as a dry hire and they stocked the cocktail camper with ciders and beers.

The Serengeti-Park Hodenhagen survival run selling schnapps to the bidding runners and we may of even signed ourselves up to run in 2018.

And many more events with more to come!

Fitting the cocktail campers internal panels and Photobooth.

Internal fittings.

Next up is wiring up the cocktail van for 220v and boarding the inside.

The idea is that we can rock up to a festival, party or expo and plug our drink truck in and everything inside is supplied with 220v.

Our coffee machine plugs straight in and has its own 20ltr water supply.

Our bottle cooler keeps beers and cold drinks nice and cool and holds up to 280 bottles of beer and chills them super fast.

Our 45 ltr per hour beer pump can cope with any event turning our beloved volkswagen old timer into a beer truck.

Our LED strip lights set the mood or can dance to the rythem of the volkswagens superior sound system.

Finally at the rear of the van is the Photo Box.

The idea is that guests can use the campers Photobooth while they wait for a drink. They approach the rear of the van, select there preferred photo filter from colour, black & white or sepia and the photobooth does the rest. Once the filter has been selected the large screen displays what the camera see’s.  It simply counts down from 5 then snap! Your picture is taken. It can take between 1 – 6 photo’s and at the end print them out immediately on lab quality paper.

The user also has the option to email the picture to themselves or upload it to social media directly from the fotobox.

Delivering the VW Drink Truck.

From Athens to Germany.

The route to Germany

Otto is loaded and ready for the route from Athens to Bispingen Germany where we lease our Cocktail Camper from.

Volkswagen Cocktail Bar MOT.

Volkswagen Cocktail Bar MOT.

So Otto is now all together and ready for the MOT.

The restoration took place in Greece where we found him so we popped it into a local test centre and besides a dodgy headlight bulb it passed.

Now the Volkswagen drink truck is ready to be exported to Germany.

Adding parts to make the cocktail bar mobile again

After several coats of paint its time to start putting the Volkswagen bus back together again.

Obviously a few new parts are needed and a new stainless steel checked floor is installed where we will serve from.

Cocktail Van Priming & Painting March 2017

After alot of rubbing, scrubbing, sweating and bleeding were at the fun part. Priming and spraying.

Its starting to look like a drink truck

February 2017. Stripping and priming the cocktail van.

Stripping the old Army green.

From what we know, Otto use to be a post van in Greece. We wasn’t keen on the original Volkswagen green and started by stripping the original paintwork off with a high powered sand blaster.
